Should She Give Up a Great Job for Her Relationship?

An Example Qi Men Dun Jia Reading
A woman receives an excellent job opportunity, but accepting it would require her to relocate.
Her boyfriend is not sure whether he wants to move with her.
She is now considering turning down the job so they can stay together.
The question is:
Should she give up the opportunity for the relationship?
This is the kind of situation where I would not look at only one part of the Qi Men Dun Jia chart.
I would want to understand three things:
What does the job opportunity represent for her?
What is happening between the two people?
Is her boyfriend actually ready to move forward with her, or is she preparing to sacrifice something before he has made his own decision?
My Reading
My answer would be:
I would not advise her to give up the job at this stage.
The chart does not suggest that she needs to end the relationship.
Instead, it shows a more important imbalance:
Her own path is already moving forward, while her boyfriend has not yet reached the same level of decision or commitment.
The problem is not that the relationship is necessarily bad.
The problem is that she may be about to make a very real sacrifice based on something that is still uncertain.
The Job Is Strongly Connected to Her
In Qi Men Dun Jia, the Open Door (开门) is one of the main indicators I examine for career opportunities, employment and professional development.
In this chart, the symbol representing the woman appears together with the Open Door.
That immediately makes the job important.
It is not sitting somewhere far away in the chart as a minor outside influence.
The opportunity is directly connected to her.
The same area of the chart also contains a strong quality of movement and forward momentum.
The image is very clear:
Her life is trying to move.
There is pressure around the decision, and the opportunity has not fully become reality yet—which makes sense, because she has not accepted the position.
But that also means the opportunity can still disappear.
If she turns it down now, she may be closing a door that was genuinely opening for her.
Her Personal Direction Is Also Moving Upward
When I look at the part of the chart representing her own overall position, I see symbols connected with expansion, elevation, planning and moving beyond the current situation.
This does not look like a period where she is meant to make herself smaller in order to keep everything exactly as it is.
It looks more like a period of growth.
That does not mean:
“Career is more important than love.”
Qi Men is much more situational than that.
What it means here is:
At this particular moment, her own momentum and the career opportunity are moving in the same direction.
That matters.
The Relationship Is Not Necessarily Bad
I then look at the boyfriend.
His position in the chart is not inherently negative.
So I would not interpret this as:
“He is a bad partner.”
And I would not say:
“Take the job and leave him.”
That is not what the chart is showing.
What stands out instead is the energetic relationship between the two people.
Her position is supporting his.
In practical terms, this often describes a relationship where one person is currently giving more, adapting more, accommodating more, or carrying more of the adjustment.
And that reflects the situation very closely.
She is already considering giving up a major opportunity for him.
He has not yet decided whether he is willing to relocate.
That difference is one of the strongest signals in the chart.
There Is Still Room for the Relationship to Work
Another important relationship symbol in Qi Men is Six Harmony (六合).
Six Harmony is often connected with partnership, cooperation, agreement and the ability to find common ground.
Its condition here is not especially negative.
So I do not see this as a simple breakup chart.
There is still room for discussion.
There is still room for compromise.
They may be able to find another solution:
temporary long distance, a later relocation, a trial period, or a different timeline.
But the chart also suggests that the current relationship dynamic is already leaning toward accommodating him.
If she gives up the job immediately—before he has made a concrete decision of his own—she may deepen that imbalance.
Will He Actually Move?
This is one of the most interesting parts of the chart.
Qi Men has a symbol known as the Horse Star (驿马).
The Horse Star is closely connected with movement, travel, relocation and changing one's physical location.
Here, however, the Horse appears in a position associated with stopping, hesitation and difficulty moving forward.
It is also weakened by an “empty” condition.
The symbolism is almost literal.
The idea of moving exists.
But:
the movement itself has not yet become real.
This suggests that the boyfriend's uncertainty is genuine.
He may be thinking about moving.
He may want to keep the possibility open.
But the chart does not show me someone who has already made the decision internally and is simply waiting to arrange the logistics.
It shows hesitation.
There may still be practical concerns, emotional reservations or other factors that have not been fully resolved.
That is why I would be very cautious about asking her to make the irreversible sacrifice first.
What May Happen Next
The chart suggests three likely developments.
First, they will probably need to have a much more serious conversation about relocation, long distance and their future.
Second, he may continue to ask for time rather than immediately giving a firm answer.
Third, the job opportunity itself may demand a decision before the relationship feels completely settled.
That is the real pressure point.
She may not have enough time to wait until everyone feels certain.
My Advice
I would keep the job opportunity open.
Then I would change the conversation with the boyfriend.
Instead of asking:
“Do you love me enough to move?”
I would ask more practical questions:
When can you realistically make a decision?
Would temporary long distance be possible?
What would relocation actually require?
How long would we try the arrangement before reassessing?
What is each person genuinely prepared to sacrifice?
Because the strongest message in this chart is not:
“Choose your career over your boyfriend.”
It is:
Do not give up a real opportunity in exchange for a commitment that has not yet become real.
If he later decides to move—or if they find another workable arrangement—they can make the next decision from there.
But based on the situation as it stands now, I would not advise her to close her own door first.
Reading Summary
Career Opportunity Strong and directly connected to her.
Her Direction Forward movement, growth, and expansion.
Relationship Still workable; not a straightforward breakup signal.
Boyfriend’s Relocation Possible, but not yet concrete.
Main Risk She sacrifices first while he remains undecided.
Advice Keep the opportunity open until his position becomes more concrete.
